Pubic lice (Pthirus pubis)
Pubic lice, or Pthirus pubis, are tiny parasitic insects that infest pubic hair and surrounding areas. They feed on blood and spread mainly through sexual contact, but can also transfer via shared clothing, bedding, or towels. Symptoms include itching, irritation, and sometimes visible lice or eggs (nits) attached to hair shafts. Treatment involves topical creams or shampoos specifically designed to kill lice, along with thorough cleaning of clothing and bedding to prevent re-infestation. Pubic lice are common and easily treatable with proper hygiene and medical guidance.
