Pubic Lice (Crabs)
Pubic lice, commonly known as "crabs," are tiny parasitic insects that infest the hair in the genital area and sometimes other body hair. They are transmitted through close personal contact, often during sexual activity, and can cause itching and discomfort. The lice feed on blood and can be seen as small, tan or grayish specks. While not a serious health threat, pubic lice can be embarrassing and may lead to secondary infections due to scratching. Treatment typically involves over-the-counter or prescription topical insecticides, and practicing good hygiene helps prevent their spread.
