Ptolemaic Army

The Ptolemaic Army was the military force of the Ptolemaic Kingdom in Egypt (circa 305-30 BCE), established by Ptolemy I after Alexander the Great's empire was divided. It combined Greek mercenaries, native Egyptian soldiers, and specialized units like cavalry and infantry. The army was well-organized, utilizing advanced tactics and weaponry for its time, including phalanx formations and siege engines. Its primary role was defending Egypt and maintaining control over scattered territories, as well as projecting power regionally. The army reflected a blend of Greek military traditions adapted to local conditions, ensuring the Ptolemaic rulers’ dominance in the Hellenistic world.
