Pterosauria
Pterosauria is a group of flying reptiles that lived during the age of dinosaurs, from about 228 to 66 million years ago. They had wings made of a thin membrane of skin stretched over elongated finger bones, allowing them to glide and soar through the air. Pterosaurs varied in size from small bird-like forms to enormous species with wingspans over 30 feet. They were highly adapted for flight with lightweight bones and specialized hollow structures. Pterosaurs played important roles as aerial predators and scavengers in their ecosystems, and they are the earliest vertebrates known to have evolved powered flight.
