Pterosaur
Pterosaurs were flying reptiles that lived during the age of dinosaurs, from about 228 to 66 million years ago. They had wings made of a thin membrane of skin stretched over a specialized finger and supported by their elongated arm bones. Pterosaurs varied in size from small bird-like forms to large creatures with wingspans over 30 feet. They were adept flyers, hunting fish and other small animals. Although often called "flying dinosaurs," they are technically a distinct group of reptiles. Their fossils help scientists understand the diversity of prehistoric life and the evolution of flight in vertebrates.
