A Polygenic Score (PGS), or Polygenic Risk Score, is a number that estimates a person’s genetic predisposition to a particular trait or health condition. It is calculated using information from many small DNA variations, called genetic markers, spread across the genome. These markers collectively influence traits like height, risk for certain diseases, or other characteristics. By analyzing thousands of these markers, scientists can generate a score that indicates how likely someone is to develop a specific trait or health issue, helping to inform personalized healthcare and risk assessment.
