PSEN2
PSEN2 is a gene that provides instructions for making a protein involved in processing certain cell parts called amyloid precursor proteins. This process is important in the brain, especially in the development of Alzheimer's disease. Mutations or changes in the PSEN2 gene can disrupt this processing, leading to the buildup of harmful protein fragments that damage nerve cells. While PSEN2 is less commonly linked than another gene called PSEN1, it can still contribute to early-onset familial Alzheimer's, which tends to develop at a younger age and runs in families.
