Prussian Uhlans

Prussian Uhlans were cavalry soldiers in the Prussian Army, active mainly during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Originating from Polish light cavalry, they were armed with lances, sabres, and later rifles, and were known for mobility, reconnaissance, and charges in battle. Their distinctive livery often included tunics and headgear with plumes or cockades. Uhlans played key roles in several conflicts, including the wars of German unification and World War I. They symbolized a traditional, aristocratic style of cavalry, maintaining a reputation for discipline and combat effectiveness until mechanized warfare reduced the use of horse-mounted troops.
