Proxy War

A proxy war occurs when two or more larger powers support different sides in a conflict within a third country, instead of fighting directly. These external powers provide weapons, funding, or training to influence the outcome without engaging in open warfare themselves. Proxy wars often arise from ideological, political, or strategic rivalries, allowing major nations to pursue their interests while minimizing risks and costs. Examples include the Cold War-era conflicts in Korea and Vietnam, where superpowers backed opposing factions, shaping regional conflicts indirectly.
