PROWESS trial data

The PROWESS trial was a large medical study that tested the drug drotrecogin alfa (activated) to treat severe sepsis, a dangerous body-wide infection. It found that patients receiving the drug had a lower risk of death compared to those who did not. However, subsequent research raised concerns about safety and confirmed benefits were modest. As a result, the drug's use was later limited, and it is no longer recommended for sepsis treatment. The trial helped improve understanding of sepsis management and the complexities of developing effective therapies.
