Provisional Government of Hawaii

The Provisional Government of Hawaii was a temporary authority established in 1893 after American settlers and business interests led a coup to overthrow Queen Liliʻuokalani, the Hawaiian monarchy. It aimed to annex Hawaii to the United States, bypassing the existing monarchy and government. The Provisional Government functioned as a transitional authority until the U.S. formally annexed Hawaii in 1898, making it an American territory. This government played a key role in ending Hawaiian independence to facilitate closer American economic and strategic interests in the Pacific.
