Proto-Indo-European languages
Proto-Indo-European (PIE) is the hypothetical common ancestor of a large family of languages known as the Indo-European family. These languages, including English, Spanish, Hindi, Russian, and many others, share similar vocabulary, grammar, and sounds, suggesting they evolved from a single ancestral language spoken thousands of years ago, likely in the Eurasian steppes. PIE itself is reconstructed through linguistic analysis of its descendant languages, helping scholars understand how these languages originated, spread, and changed over time. Although no written records of PIE exist, its features are inferred through comparative linguistics.
