Protestant Ethics

The Protestant Ethic refers to the idea that certain values in Protestant Christianity, especially those stemming from Calvinism, encourage hard work, discipline, and frugality as a way of serving God. This mindset promotes the belief that success and prosperity can be signs of divine favor, motivating individuals to work diligently and live modestly. Max Weber argued that these values helped shape the development of capitalism by fostering a culture of industriousness and responsibility, linking religious beliefs with economic behavior and social progress.
