Protein Contact Dermatitis

Protein contact dermatitis is a skin reaction that occurs when the skin comes into contact with certain proteins. This type of contact dermatitis is often triggered by allergens found in foods (like seafood or nuts), plants, or even some animals. When the skin is exposed, it can become red, itchy, and inflamed. Unlike some other forms of dermatitis, which may be caused by chemicals or irritants, protein contact dermatitis specifically involves the immune system reacting to these proteins. Avoiding direct contact with the offending allergens is key to preventing flare-ups.
