protectionist policies

Protectionist policies are government actions aimed at supporting domestic industries by reducing foreign competition. This is often done by imposing tariffs (taxes on imports), quotas (limits on the number of certain goods that can be imported), or strict regulations. The goal is to help local businesses grow and protect jobs, but these measures can also lead to higher prices for consumers and can provoke retaliatory actions from other countries. Essentially, protectionism tries to favor local production over foreign goods to strengthen the national economy, but it can also distort free trade.
