prosthetic vision

Prosthetic vision involves using advanced devices to help people with severe vision loss perceive their surroundings. Typically, these systems include a camera mounted on glasses that captures visual information, which is then processed and converted into electrical signals. These signals are sent to an implanted or wearable device that stimulates the remaining healthy retinal cells or directly interacts with the visual cortex in the brain, creating patterns of light or images. While not restoring normal sight, prosthetic vision can improve spatial awareness and object recognition, providing greater independence for individuals with conditions like retinal degenerative diseases.
