Prostate Health Index (PHI)

The Prostate Health Index (PHI) is a blood test that helps evaluate the likelihood of prostate cancer in men experiencing elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. It combines three measurements—total PSA, free PSA, and a form called [-2]proPSA—to provide a score that improves accuracy over PSA alone. A higher PHI score indicates a greater chance of significant prostate cancer, helping doctors decide whether further testing or a biopsy is needed. PHI aims to reduce unnecessary procedures by better distinguishing benign conditions from serious cancer risk.
