Proposition (linguistics)
In linguistics, a proposition is the core meaning or statement expressed by a sentence, often representing a fact or thought. It’s the content that can be true or false, independent of how it’s phrased. For example, the sentence "The sky is blue" and "It is true that the sky is blue" both convey the same proposition. Propositions are fundamental for understanding meaning, reasoning, and communication because they capture the underlying message conveyed by language, regardless of sentence structure or words used.
