Project Orion

Project Orion was a theoretical space propulsion system developed in the 1950s and 1960s that aimed to use nuclear explosions to propel a spacecraft. The concept involved detonating small nuclear bombs behind the spacecraft, which would create thrust by pushing it forward. This innovative idea promised incredibly fast travel through space, potentially enabling missions to Mars and beyond in a fraction of the time required by conventional rockets. While it was never built due to safety, technical, and regulatory concerns, Project Orion remains a significant concept in the exploration of advanced propulsion technologies.
