Project Blue Book

Project Blue Book was a U.S. Air Force program active from 1952 to 1969, investigating reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs). Its main goals were to determine if UFOs posed a threat to national security and to study their scientific phenomena. Over its duration, Project Blue Book collected and analyzed thousands of sightings. While many cases were explained as misidentified aircraft, weather phenomena, or hoaxes, a small percentage remained unexplained. The project ultimately concluded that UFOs were not a threat, and it was discontinued, though it sparked public interest in UFOs and extraterrestrial life.
