Professor Longhair, born Roy Byrd in 1918, was a pioneering American pianist and singer known for blending New Orleans jazz, blues, gospel, and rhythm & blues. His lively, rhythmic piano style and distinctive vocal delivery helped define the sound of New Orleans music and influenced many genres, including rock and roll. Often called "Fess" or "The Master of the New Orleans Sound," his recordings like "Mardi Gras in New Orleans" remain iconic.
