Prisoner's Dilemma (theoretical model)
The Prisoner's Dilemma is a theoretical scenario in which two individuals facing a choice must decide whether to cooperate or betray each other, without knowing the other's decision. If both cooperate, they get a moderate benefit; if one defects while the other cooperates, the defector gains the best outcome, while the cooperator suffers. If both defect, both receive a worse outcome than if they had cooperated. This model illustrates how rational individuals might choose self-interest over collective benefit, often leading to suboptimal results for both parties, highlighting challenges in cooperation and trust.
