Prion-like propagation
Prion-like propagation describes how certain misfolded proteins can spread within the body or brain. Normally, proteins have specific shapes that allow them to function correctly. When they become misfolded, they can induce neighboring proteins to also misfold, creating a chain reaction. This process is similar to prions, infectious proteins responsible for diseases like mad cow disease, but "prion-like" proteins are involved in other neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's. The misfolded proteins can travel between cells, spreading the dysfunction and damage, which contributes to disease progression over time.
