Princely State of Satara
The Princely State of Satara was a semi-autonomous region in India during British rule, ruled by a local monarch known as the Maratha ruler or Raja. It was part of the larger Maratha Empire and located in present-day Maharashtra. The state maintained its own governance but was under British suzerainty, meaning the British had influence over its affairs. Satara played a significant role in the region’s history and culture. After India’s independence in 1947, the princely states, including Satara, were integrated into the Indian Union, ending monarchical rule.
