Prince Albert I of Monaco (1848-1922) was the sovereign ruler who modernized the small Mediterranean principality. He is known for his contributions to science, particularly oceanography, founding the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco. Albert I was also a patron of the arts and sports, establishing the Monaco Grand Prix and promoting cultural events. His reign saw the development of Monaco’s infrastructure and tourism, as well as significant political reforms. He was the first ruler to officially carry the title "Prince of Monaco," and his legacy continues through his descendants, including his great-grandson, the current Prince Albert II.
