Prime ideals

Prime ideals are a fundamental concept in algebra, particularly in ring theory. Think of a ring as a set of numbers or objects with addition and multiplication, like integers. A prime ideal is a special subset within this ring that, if a product of two elements falls into it, then at least one of those elements must also be in the subset. This property makes prime ideals analogous to prime numbers, which have no divisors other than 1 and themselves. They help mathematicians understand the structure of rings and how they can be broken down into simpler components.
