Prime editing

Prime editing is a precise gene editing technology that allows scientists to make specific changes to DNA sequences without cutting both strands. It uses a specially designed enzyme called a reverse transcriptase, combined with a guide RNA that directs the enzyme to the target DNA. The guide RNA also contains the desired genetic change. When activated, the system writes the new genetic information directly into the DNA, enabling accurate corrections or modifications. This method offers a safer and more flexible way to edit genes compared to earlier techniques, with potential applications in treating genetic diseases.
