Primary wastewater treatment

Primary wastewater treatment is the process of removing solid, suspended particles and fats from sewage before it undergoes further cleaning. The wastewater is first screened to catch large debris like plastics and rags. It then flows into large settling tanks where heavier solids, known as sludge, sink to the bottom, and lighter materials like oils and grease float to the surface and are skimmed off. This step reduces the pollutant load and prepares the water for secondary treatment, making it cleaner and safer for the environment.
