Primary progressive MS

Primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS) is a form of MS characterized by a gradual worsening of neurological function from the start, without distinct relapses or remissions. It results from ongoing damage to the nerve-insulating myelin and nerve fibers in the central nervous system, leading to increasing disability over time. Unlike other MS types, PPMS progresses steadily from the beginning, affecting movement, strength, and other functions. The cause is not fully understood, but it involves immune system activity and inflammation. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and slowing progression, as there is no cure currently available.
