Primary Election

A primary election is an initial voting process used by political parties to select their candidate for a general election. During a primary, registered voters choose among multiple candidates within the same party. The candidate who receives the most votes becomes the party's official nominee for the upcoming election. Primaries can be open (allowing any voter to participate), closed (only registered party members can vote), or semi-closed, depending on the state's rules. This process helps narrow down options so voters can pick their preferred candidate to represent their party in the general election.
