Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia
Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare genetic disorder where the tiny hair-like structures called cilia, which line the respiratory tract, middle ear, and other areas, don’t work properly. These cilia help clear mucus, dust, and germs from the airways. When they’re faulty, mucus and pathogens build up, leading to persistent respiratory infections, sinus problems, and sometimes more serious issues like testicular or middle ear problems. PCD is inherited, meaning it runs in families, and it often requires careful management to prevent lung damage and improve quality of life.
