Primary Care Trusts (PCTs)
Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) were regional organizations in England responsible for planning and funding healthcare services outside hospitals, such as general practitioner (GP) practices, community clinics, and mental health services. They acted as intermediaries between the government and local providers, ensuring that local health needs were met efficiently. PCTs managed budgets, coordinated care, and aimed to improve public health outcomes in their areas. They existed until 2013 when their roles were integrated into NHS England and local Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).
