Prestressed Concrete

Prestressed concrete is a type of reinforced concrete where internal tension is applied to strengthen the material before it is used. This process involves placing high-strength steel tendons or cables inside the concrete, which are then tensioned and anchored. As the tension is released, it compresses the concrete, counteracting the natural forces of tension that occur when the structure bears loads. This pre-compression improves the concrete’s ability to handle heavy weights, reduces cracking, and allows for longer spans and more durable structures. It’s commonly used in bridges, large buildings, and infrastructure projects to enhance strength and longevity.
