Pressure Support (PS)

Pressure Support (PS) is a breathing assistance technique used in mechanical ventilation where a set amount of pressure is delivered to help the patient inhale more comfortably and effectively. It reduces the effort the patient's muscles must exert during inspiration, making breathing easier. During PS, the ventilator provides a preset level of pressure each time the patient initiates a breath, supporting their natural breathing pattern. This method improves oxygen intake and reduces fatigue, especially for patients recovering from illness or surgery, while allowing some control over their own breathing.
