Presidential veto power
The presidential veto power is the authority of the President to reject a bill passed by Congress, preventing it from becoming law. When the President receives a bill, they can sign it to enact it or veto it to block it. Congress can override a veto with a two-thirds majority in both houses, allowing the bill to become law despite the veto. This power acts as a check on legislative authority, ensuring the President can prevent laws they believe are inappropriate or harmful, while still allowing Congress to override if there is strong consensus.
