Presidential elections in India

India's Presidential elections are conducted through an indirect electoral process. Elected members of Parliament and legislative assemblies across states vote to elect the President. Each voter’s vote is weighted based on the population they represent, using a system called the Electoral College. The candidate with the majority of votes becomes the President, who primarily functions as a ceremonial head of state, upholding the Constitution and representing national unity. The process ensures proportional representation from various states and regions, maintaining a balanced federation. The election is overseen by the Election Commission of India, ensuring fairness and transparency.
