Prenatal alcohol exposure

Prenatal alcohol exposure occurs when a pregnant individual consumes alcohol during pregnancy, which can pass from the mother's bloodstream into the developing baby. This exposure can interfere with normal brain development and physical growth, leading to a range of lifelong effects collectively known as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs). These effects may include learning difficulties, behavioral challenges, and physical abnormalities. Since there is no safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy, health professionals recommend avoiding alcohol entirely to protect the developing baby’s health and development.
