Premature Ovarian Failure
Premature Ovarian Failure (POF), also known as primary ovarian insufficiency, occurs when a woman’s ovaries stop functioning properly before age 40. This means the ovaries no longer produce enough hormones, like estrogen, or release eggs regularly, which can lead to symptoms like irregular periods, hot flashes, and infertility. POF can result from genetic factors, autoimmune disorders, or environmental influences. While it can be a challenging condition, some women might experience periods of normal ovarian function, and treatments like hormone replacement therapy can help manage symptoms and maintain health.
