POW rights
POW rights refer to the protections and privileges granted to prisoners of war under international law, primarily the Geneva Conventions. These rights ensure that POWs are treated humanely, with respect for their dignity, and protected from torture, violence, and degrading treatment. They have the right to receive adequate food, medical care, and to retain their personal belongings. POWs are also entitled to communicate with their families and receive lawful treatment until their status is resolved—either repatriation after the conflict or other legal processes—aiming to prevent abuse and ensure fair treatment during captivity.
