Posterior Cruciate Ligament
The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is a strong band of tissue inside the knee that connects the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone (tibia). It mainly prevents the tibia from slipping backward relative to the femur, helping stabilize the knee during movement. The PCL is crucial for activities like walking, running, and jumping, providing joint stability when the knee is bent. Injuries often result from trauma or impact, especially when the tibia is pushed backward, and treatment can range from rest and rehabilitation to surgery in severe cases.
