Posterior canal BPPV
Posterior canal BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) is a common inner ear disorder that causes brief dizziness or a spinning sensation when changing head positions. It occurs when tiny calcium crystals, called otoconia, become dislodged from their usual place in the ear and move into the posterior semicircular canal, disrupting normal balance signals. This causes episodes of vertigo typically triggered by lying down, turning over, or tilting the head backward. The condition can be diagnosed through specific physical tests and often treated with specialized maneuvers to remove the crystals from the ear canal, restoring normal balance.
