Posterior Ankle Impingement

Posterior ankle impingement occurs when soft tissues or bony structures at the back of the ankle become squeezed or pinched during activities like pushing off or pointing the toes. This usually happens after repetitive activities or an injury, leading to pain, swelling, and difficulty moving the ankle. It often affects athletes such as dancers or football players. The condition can result from bone spurs, ligament injuries, or other structural issues that cause the space at the back of the ankle to narrow. Treatment may include rest, physical therapy, or, in some cases, surgery to relieve the impingement.
