Post-Exertional Malaise

Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM) is a worsening of symptoms following physical or mental activity, often characterized by increased fatigue, pain, and cognitive issues. It can occur hours or days after exertion and may last for more than 24 hours. PEM is common in conditions like ME/CFS and can significantly impact daily life, as even minor activities might trigger a flare-up. Managing PEM involves pacing oneself, avoiding overexertion, and recognizing personal limits to help prevent or reduce symptom worsening.
