positrons

A positron is the antimatter equivalent of an electron, sharing the same mass but having a positive electric charge instead of a negative one. When a positron encounters an electron, they annihilate each other, releasing energy in the form of gamma rays. Positrons are produced naturally in certain radioactive decays and also artificially in medical imaging techniques like PET scans. Studying positrons helps scientists better understand fundamental particles and the universe's underlying laws.
