Positive Punishment
Positive punishment involves adding an undesirable stimulus after a behavior to decrease that behavior's likelihood in the future. For example, if a dog chews on furniture and is then given a loud noise or spray of water, the unpleasant experience discourages the dog from repeating the chewing. It is called "positive" because something is added, not because it’s good. The goal is to reduce unwanted behavior by applying a consequence that the individual finds unpleasant, helping to promote learning and behavior change through consequences.
