Portuguese Revolution of 1820
The Portuguese Revolution of 1820 was a political movement that ended centuries of absolute monarchy and established a constitutional government. Driven by dissatisfaction with King João VI's centralized rule and inspired by liberal ideas from Europe, Brazilians and Portuguese citizens demanded political reform. The uprising led to the formation of a constitutional assembly and the adoption of the Liberal Constitution of 1822, which limited royal power and promoted civil liberties. It marked a significant shift towards modern governance in Portugal and paved the way for Brazil’s independence journey.
