Portuguese Navy
The Portuguese Navy is the maritime branch of Portugal’s armed forces, responsible for defending the country’s interests at sea. It conducts naval operations, patrols national waters, safeguards maritime borders, and participates in international missions such as peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts. Equipped with ships, submarines, and aircraft, the navy also supports maritime research and search-and-rescue missions. Historically, Portugal’s navy played a key role during the Age of Exploration, establishing global trade routes. Today, it continues to ensure maritime security, sovereignty, and contribute to international collaborations, reflecting Portugal’s long-standing connection to the Atlantic Ocean.
