port sites (for laparoscopic surgeries)
Port sites are small incisions made during laparoscopic surgeries, where specialized tubes called trocars are inserted to access the inside of the body. These sites allow surgeons to insert cameras, surgical tools, and other instruments to perform procedures with minimal cutting. Typically ranging from a few millimeters to a centimeter, port sites promote faster recovery, less pain, and reduced scarring compared to traditional open surgery. After the procedure, the tiny incisions are closed with sutures or adhesive strips, often healing quickly with minimal discomfort.
