Port-a-cath
A Port-a-Cath is a small medical device implanted under the skin, usually near the chest or arm, that provides easy access to a vein. It consists of a reservoir (port) connected to a catheter (tube) that leads into a large vein. This setup allows healthcare providers to give medications, fluids, or draw blood routinely without repeated needle sticks. It is especially useful for patients needing long-term intravenous therapy, such as chemotherapy or certain nutritional treatments. Once in place, the port can be accessed with a special needle, making ongoing treatments safer and more comfortable.
