Pope Pius II
Pope Pius II, born Enea Silvio Piccolomini in 1405, was an Italian scholar and diplomat who became pope from 1458 to 1464. Originally a humanist and author, he was known for his wit and learning. As pope, he aimed to strengthen the Catholic Church and promote Christian unity but faced political and military challenges, notably his unsuccessful efforts to rally Europe against the Ottoman Turks.
